KERA snap and picnic

Hello dear readers! How are you?

It's a nice day in England, and I have been doing some writing in the garden. Also, I've taken the opprtunity to handwash some of my clothes! Handwashing is a never ending task for lolitas, isn't it? At least it should all dry quickly today.

This post is from a while back, it was the day I went to the KERA snap at Marui and then had a picnic in nearby Shinjuku Gyoen. This was my outfit:

Hat: Handmade
Blouse: Atelier Pierrot
Skirt: Jane Marple
Gloves: Vintage

I really love this Atelier Pierrot blouse with big puff sleeves. It is very historical looking and I feel like a girl in a story book! For the purposes of the snap I said my theme was 'Country Lolita'. I really like the idea of country lolita and I want to make more outfits in that style. Alice a la mode/Alice Deco used to have a lot of nice country coordinates that weren't typical. What happened to that magazine? It was so creative!

Here's a better look at my hat. As you can see, this was taken at the park. It was such lovely weather- sunny and warm but not too hot, windy or humid! There were lots of young families out and very cute children tumbling about.

It was a good situation for wearing country lolita. One strange thing though- there appeared to be cat litter sprinkled on the grass all around!

Is it fertilizer or something? Weird!

I'm delighted to say that my picture got into the snap, along with Shinobu and Aviva/go_slow_ly!

I can't tell you how happy I am to see my picture in there. I wish I could go to the snap every month but I've only made three so far. I hope I can go to many more when I return in the autumn!

Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoyed the pictures. Have a lovely weekend wherever you are!

Black and brown coordinate

Hello dear readers! How are you?

I went to Shinjuku the other day, and decided to try out a black and brown outfit. For a long time, I didn't like this combination, but recently I started to think it looks very pleasing and elegant if done nicely. It also gives me a chance to wear my black items which I seldom use, like this chiffon blouse with tiny imitation mother-of-pearl buttons.

Headbow, JSK: Innocent World
Necklace: Chocochip Cookie
Bag: Metamorphose
Others: Offbrand

It's pretty simple, but I think I got the colour balance right.

I went to a restaurant in Lumine Est, I'm afraid I forgot the name but it specialises in udon, soba and pasta. You can choose your main dish, plus two side dishes and a drink. I chose two desserts as my side dishes!

Warabi mochi (the one on the right) is my favourite! My friend went for rice and pumpkin. They were good too!

The main dish was cold noodles with yuzu soya sauce and mentaiko. It was really refreshing! This was actually the day of the dust cloud so it was good to eat something clean and healthy tasting after all that yuckiness.

I also got some fake glasses at 3coins, I've been thinking about getting some for a while since they look so good on Japanese girls here. The popular huge ones don't do much for me though, they are basically the same size as my face and look a bit mad. These middling seized ones are quite big enough I think.

I poked the lenses out when I got home. After all, if they are fake, you may as well make no pretence at all! I don't know if I will wear them often but it was fun to try them out for 315yen.

Hope you enjoyed the pictures! See you again soon,

Misako's Alice Christmas Tea Party

 Hello dear readers!

Sorry for the lack of updates, I was making the most of my time at home. I'm back in Tokyo now!

Today I have pictures from an event I went to just before I went home. I've wanted to go to one of Misako's tea parties for some time, and my friend invited me along to this one which was held in a restaurant in Shinjuku.

There are a few Alice themed cafes/restaurants in Shinjuku these days, but this was the first time I'd been to one! The name of this particular restaurant is Ehon no Kuni no Arisu (Alice of Picture Book Land) and it is usually only open in the evening, but they opened it specially for Misako's party.

Ok, according to the coaster it's Alice in Fantasy Book but I prefer my translation.

Here's my outfit!

Ribbon: Ange (Japanese indies brand)
Blouse: Vintage
Jumperskirt: Emily Temple Cute
Tights: tutuanna

Of course, the theme was Alice. I tried to give it a new twist by adding red to the usual blue (British Alice?). It's hard to see, but my tights have hearts, clubs, spades and diamonds on them!

I think this coord needs a bit more work still, so I'll try another version some time.

Here's a glimpse of the inside of the restaurant. There was a great chandelier (which I had to duck under) and huge Tenniel illustrations on the walls, lot of mirrors and some perspex walls, which gave it a wonderland feeling.

There were some talk shows, and two of my friends from GLP no Kai (a lolita circle) were part of it! Kawaii Girl Japan were covering the event too.

The food was really nice, and much more plentiful than at the Triple Fortune party. There was a savoury course and a sweet course, buffet style, and enough for seconds!

There were tomato and salmon roses (the one pictured is a tomato one) and the potato waffles were so yummy! I do miss potatoes being here. I ate ever so many at home to make up for it!

The desserts were very pretty, there were chocolate ones and starwberry ones and choux pastry as well as these nice green tea roll cakes.

There was another talk show with Hanae, a very sweet girl who is a musician. She seemed so shy and gentle, I want to be her friend! After I post this I will look up her music. She gave us some reccomendations about eyeliner and books, including a book detailing cafes and so on suitable for a maidenly lifestyle.  She had a lovely Innocent World onepiece with a high collar, and tights from Grimoire!

Misako seemed very animated during the party, more than usual maybe, and happy to have so many guests come to see her. I really enjoyed the talk shows (especially with my nice friend to translate the difficult bits for me!) and I think it would be good if we did something more like that at events like Hyper Japan. Fashion shows are fun, but a bit impersonal perhaps. The talk shows were not wildly exciting, but just nice chats about clothes and hair and make up and books and cafes, so cosy and pleasant! All in all it was a very nice day, and quite relaxing in fact.

We all took a photo with Misako at the end, and I will post it as it's a happy memory, even though I look like Godzilla next to her:

Just look at Misako please, not me!

Oh yes, we did a jan-ken-pon taikai (rock paper scissors tournament) with Misako and Hanae, and I was one of the winners! Misako had bought Alice prizes at Disneyland and I got this adorable box of tea.

The hearts are apple tea, and the clubs are ceylon. I love the art deco style illustration!

Thank you for reading, and perhaps you'd like to finish by watching this video of the tea party made by Kawaii Girl Japan:

There are English subtitles, and Hanae-chan is in it! I'm in it too at the end saying "Kawaii Girl Japan", right at the back with my red ribbon!

See you next time,

Tea Party at Sumire no Tenmado

Hello dear readers! How are you?

Maybe you have heard the sad news about Sumire no Tenmado closing?  Yes, they will close in January :(

Since many of the Tokyo lolitas wanted to make sure to visit before the closure, yesterday we went there for a tea party!

It's rather hard to find, tucked away in a part of Shinjuku that is all narrow streets and tiny bars and live houses.

We did find it in the end though!

Hooray!

Menu outside with the halloween decorations still up.

Inside. I like the piano shelves!

There about 13 of us, so it was a bit of a squeeze to say the least. We had a choice between various types of cheesecake plus carrot cake. I chose the black cheesecake (on the bottom right). It was sesame flavour, and very delicious! There were edible rose petals sprinkled on the cakes too.

Pretty tea cups!

Me and Alice. I love this nostalgic set from Meta, and she really truly looks like an antique doll in it.

Obligatory photo of Tim Burton's drawing.

These helpful instructions were provided in the loo (as well as a poster of Johnny Depp as the mad hatter, which was a bit unnerving).

This was outside. Not sure what it is, but it surely is cute!

I was really happy to finally meet Shinobu from Mexico! She's reading my blog, and I'm reading hers (with the aid of google translate). I always enjoyed reading her comments so I'm glad we could talk in person. I'm looking forward to seeing her at the next meet up!

After the tea party we met up with another group of lolitas at Marui and did some shopping there and at Closet Child. Since it was raining we ended up having snacks at the British pub next to Closet Child! I always wondered what it was like in there, finally I know. It was pretty accurate apart from the smell, which is considerably more like centuries of stale beer in the real thing.

Here's my outfit shot, courtesy of Aviva:

Hat: Vintage
Cutsew: franche lippee
JSK: Emily Temple Cute
Bag: Metamorphose
Others: Offbrand

I wanted to go for an elegant and aristocratic look with this outfit, and also to try wearing darker colours to suit the season.

Although it was rainy, it was a really nice day, and it was great to meet a lot of new people too. Hope to see them all again sometime soon!

****

After saying goodbye to the lolitas, I went to eat sushi. I haven't eaten any for a while, so I really fancied it. This was actually the best sushi I've had so far I think!

I haven't tried the kind with crab before, it was really good!

The dessert was so pretty! Fruit jelly with an autumn leaf for decoration.

Hope you enjoyed the pictures, there were ever so many. I also hope that everyone who wants to will be able to get to Sumire no Tenmado before it closes.

Thanks for reading,

Licca-chan exhibition at Okadaya

Hello readers!

Today's post is the last one about my trip to Japan in January. On this day I went to Okadaya, one of the most fun shops in Tokyo! Okadaya actually consists of two tall buildings, and it is filled with all manner of useful and pretty things for sewing, crafts and costuming. I love spending time there! This visit was even more interesting, because there was an exhibition of Licca-chan dolls.

Have you met Licca-chan before? She is Japan's answer to Barbie. She's very cute, don't you think? I loved Barbie so much when I was growing up, but Licca-chan is also very appealing and stylish, as you shall see!

I'd love to wear this outfit for shopping, or even at work!

This is another of my favourites. The apron is styled like German costume, but the denim gives it a prairie look. She looks so sweet <3 This colour combination is nice and a little bit unusual too!

Another natural kei/prairie outfit.

I know it's a bit frumpy, but I do love a smock. Here Licca-chan looks like Red Riding Hood!

Another coordinate I can easily imagine wearing. I think she might have had a little rucksack on her back.

I'm not sure how these huge clumpy boots would work with this dress on a real person, but on a doll they're very sweet. I like this vibrant blue!

I love her hairstyle here! She looks so casual and fresh, as if she's dressed for the first day of spring.

Pink-haired Licca-chan! I suppose this is an outfit for a stay at home day.

Finally here's my outfit (not as cute I know....)
~Rundown~
Scarf (worn in hair) and blouse- Vintage
Cuffs- Baby, the Stars Shine Bright
Jumperskirt- Emily Temple Cute
Bag- Metamorphose
Others- Offbrand

I had tea at the Keio Plaza hotel and later had even more tea and dinner with my dear friend :)

I hope you've enjoyed this series of posts! It's been fun to look back at my holiday and I've really enjoyed your comments. Thanks so much for reading!

Se you next time,

Shopping in Shinjuku

Hello Readers!

It's the next installment of my visit to Japan.

As I said before, on the 1st of January, nearly everything was closed! However, the 2nd was the day the sales started in many shops. So what else to do, but shop?

My first stop was the second-hand Loli/Goth/Punk/VK shop Closet Child Shinjuku. We arrived a little while before it opened, and there were a few lolis waiting around outside. I started on the highest floor, selling punk and gothic items. Next was the Lolita floor, and that was getting very busy! I found two blue velvet jumperskirts on the sale rail, one Metamorphose and one Emily Temple Cute. I have always wanted a blue velvet dress, and these were both so nice!

Luckily I had the luxury of being able to try them on, something which non-Japanese lolis don't often have. The Meta one was more frilly and ornate, with a lace trim, whereas the Emikyu one had a rather subtle design with a plain bodice and a panels at the front where the nap of the velvet was alternately reversed to make stripes. Well, it was lucky I did try them, for I'm afraid the Meta jsk did me no favours, but I fell head over heels for the Emikyu one! I also tried on a beautiful almond-coloured Victorian Maiden coat, but I decided to put off buying a new coat until later when I'd had a proper look around.

I had a quick browse of the next floor down where the Vivienne Westwood items are sold, then went on the music Closet Child, which is located nearby in a separate building. Pure Sound is also nearby (another second-hand VK shop) and I got JE*REVIENS and MALICE MIZER cds. I wanted to get Aioria's one and only album, but alas, I couldn't find anything by them all trip. In Pure Sound there was only the separator marked "Aioria" and no cds!

We had lunch in Gusto, one of Japan's many chains of family restaurants. I'm very fond of family restaurants! They serve supposedly Western-style food, but the dishes tend to be rather unique to Japan (such as omu-rice, and katsu-sando). I had Hamburg steak :D Oh dear, I need to cultivate a more established taste in food! I did have more refined things on other days though, don't worry.

Thus fortified, I made my way to MARUI ONE. Guess what, I saw one of my idols, Choco-nyan! She works in Emily Temple Cute. I hope I didn't stare too much. I wasn't sure at first, but the parting of her fringe is very distinctive (and as you might well guess I'm rather particular about fringes XD) and when I saw it I was certain it was her!

It was quite busy there too, but not crazy. We did all the shops! Metamorphose has some nice bags and socks at the moment with a somewhat scholarly air, very suitable for Classic Lolita. Also, the staff are really charming and smiling! arthérapie has gorgeous things as usual, and I saw some items very similar to a particularly lovely Jean Paul Gautier series that was a Japan exclusive some time ago, with an embossed rose. JESUS DIAMANTE was the one shop that was completely deserted. Has it fallen out of favour? La Parfait on the other hand, which I find rather similar in style, was bustling. On the top floor I picked up Cure magazine, which has D on the cover, and an English interview with them. Actually, I got to meet them again while I was there! I'll tell you all about that soon.

KERA SHOP ANGEL was filled with loveliness, and I had a lot of fun trying out different accessories on my head! A lot of items were 20 or 30% off. I really admired the hats from corgi-corgi, which are even nicer than they appear in KERA and GLB. My companion was kind enough to buy me one, a pretty milk-tea coloured affair with a brim heaped with velvety brown roses! A very nice Christmas present, thank you~

I also picked up some socks in MARUI, a lucky find since they were just the thing to turn the rest of the day's aquisitions into a coordinate!

The next place I wanted to visit was MYLORD, since I've been looking at the webshops of quite a few non-Lolita Japanese brands lately. MYLORD mostly caters towards a pretty, soft and feminine aesthetic, not offbeat like Lolita, and not sexy like Gal, and not slavishly fashionable either. Some brands are more casual than others, and there's a few different price ranges. I had been admiring L'est Rose and f.i.n.t from afar, but I have to say, though they were nice (particularly L'est Rose, which is very nice quality and has some adorable dresses and sets) nothing I saw gave me the same wonderful feeling as Lolita. I think it was good to have a look around these shops, both to give me the inspiration that comes from seeing something fresh, but also to reassure me that I love Lolita.

Lace and fur collars were everywhere in MYLORD, brogue shoes, satchels, long pleated skirts and cropped loose sweaters. I liked the natural, soft colours and the dreamy impression of the clothes. The atmosphere however was not dreamy! I have never been shouted at so much in my life! It was somewhat like going to an English street market where the vendors call out "Flowers are lovely dear!" and that sort of thing. However, this is indoors, at great volume, in a high nasal voice, through a paper megaphone thing that the shop girls also bang on to make even more noise. They were announcing a 'time sale', something that I haven't heard of outside Japan, where sale items get reduced even further for a limited time (a few hours or so). I didn't buy anything, despite all the loud encouragement (I didn't mind the noise actually, it made things more exciting though I did find it a rather strange experience).

We finished the day with tea and cake at Ducky Duck in MYLORD. With a name like that, how could one miss and opportunity for a visit? The service was very good actually, and I liked being given a little sand timer so my rose tea didn't get stewed.

Next time I'll be living the high life in Ebisu and Ginza! Please check back soon for the next post, and I hope you enjoyed reading this one.
